The short version

Reverie does not collect, store, or transmit your writing. Your documents are plain Markdown files on your own disk. The app has no cloud service, no account system, and no analytics.

What the app does

Reverie runs entirely on your device. Your files never leave your machine. There is no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no usage tracking.

There is one exception, and it is licence verification. If you have bought Reverie, the app contacts our licensing server to confirm your licence is valid. Each check sends your licence key, a device identifier, and the name of your operating system, such as macOS or Windows. The device identifier is a random number created the first time you run Reverie. It is not taken from your hardware and holds no personal information.

Behavioural signals (typing rhythm, session duration) are computed locally to drive the ambient feedback system. These signals are never recorded, stored, or transmitted. They exist only in memory while the app is running and are discarded when you close it.

What the website collects

Email signup. If you submit your email on the homepage, we store it and use it only to notify you about Reverie. You can request removal at any time by contacting support.

Purchases. When you buy a licence, Stripe handles the payment. We never see or store your card details. We do keep your email address, your licence key, the reference for your order, and whether you asked to hear about Reverie. We use this to send you your licence, help you when you contact support, and handle refunds. We also keep a record of where your licence is in use, which is the device identifier, operating system, and last seen time described above.

Support requests. If you submit a support request, your email address, message, and any platform information you provide are stored and used only to respond to your request.

No cookies. This website sets no cookies and runs no tracking scripts, and there is no analytics service. When you buy, Stripe’s checkout pages are served by Stripe on its own domain, and those pages may set cookies needed to take payment.

Third parties

Our website and services run on Cloudflare, which also stores the data described above. Cloudflare may handle connection details such as your IP address and request headers as part of serving the site. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Stripe takes the payment when you buy a licence. Your card details go straight to Stripe and are never seen by us. For some of this work Stripe acts as its own data controller. See Stripe’s privacy policy.

Resend delivers email such as your licence key. See Resend’s privacy policy.

No other third parties receive your data.

Where your data is held

Some of our providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by UK-approved safeguards such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Why we are allowed to hold it

UK data protection law asks us to have a clear reason for holding your data. Ours are simple.

We keep your newsletter email because you gave it to us and asked to hear about Reverie. That is consent, and you can withdraw it whenever you like by contacting support.

We keep your purchase and licence details because we need them to give you what you bought and to keep your licence working. That is part of our contract with you.

We answer support requests, and keep what you send while we do so, because it is in your interest and ours that we can help. That is our legitimate interest.

We hold a financial record of your purchase because the law requires it. That is a legal obligation.

How long we keep it

We keep your newsletter email until you ask us to remove it, or you unsubscribe.

We keep your support request while we deal with it, and for a short while after in case you write back.

We keep your licence and purchase records for as long as your licence lasts, so we can support and verify it. The record of where a licence is in use is kept while the licence is active.

We keep the financial record of your purchase for seven years, because UK tax law requires it.
